Reading Characters
Have you watch the film called Titanic?Beside the sinking ship,this film is about a man and woman from different social backgrounds who meet and fall in love aboard the ship during the ill-fated maiden voyage of RMS Titanic.It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater.Jack is portrayed as a penniless artist who has toured various parts of the world.In this movie,he represent as third-class people who is poor and he going everywhere where fate brings him to stay.We can see this at early of the film where he won two tickets onto the Titanic in a poker game and travels as a third-class passenger with his friend .Although he is poor but he has a kind heart.Rose boards the RMS Titanic with her mother and fiance who she was force into an engagement by her mother.She represents as a woman who comes from a wealthy family and board to the ship as a first-class passenger.By her clothing in the movie we can see that Rose comes from high-class society. Jack is attracted to Rose at first sight and meets her when she attempts to jump off the stern of the ship. Things become complex when they are fall in love but the facts is,their love not ever be approve by Rose mother because of their different social background and also Rose is engaged to a wealthy man so her mother can maintain their high-class status after her father's death had left the family debt-ridden.

After I've done the film reading of Titanic, a lot of information can be obtained from the storyline. The comparison of both characters can be seen clearly throughout the entire film; this includes from the way they dress and how they communicate with each other. Another example of showing their comparison is the point of arrival for both of the characters when they first board the ship. We can see that Rose was greeted by a warm welcome and had the time to observe great authentic paintings made by famous painter, Pablo Picasso. While Jack Dawson boards the ship at the third class passenger levels with no special greetings. This scene exactly shows us how the others treat people from different classes.
ReplyDeletei agree with what Amira Fateha said above. this movie shows a lot of comparison between both of the character, Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater. we can see the way first class person wear is really different from what third class person's wear. even they way both of them get into the titanic ship also different. Rose get a warm welcome by the crew member while Jack got to titanic by his luck. they way they eat also different. first class people have to takes care of many ethics when they are having their meals and they must eat at the time. while people third class like jack is just eat without any ethics. this can be shown when we see rose eat at the exact time at dinner and breakfast. another thing is we can see that Jack is a really good artist by his drawing and Rose is not just the one that like to see the painting. she knows how to appreciate it. this can be seen when she see Jack drawing's book and she really amazed to his drawing.
ReplyDeleteTitanic has been a very old movie since I was a kid. And my first watch is during my secondary school. So here I will talk about my experience watching the movie during that time, although I was still 10, differentiating the character was an easy task to me. I can differentiate them just by looking at their attires, their way of speaking, their manner and their taste. While untill today, I believe we have been countless time watching the movie. And gradually we can read the characters more deeper. Rose is from a very wealthy family. Most of the passengers of RMS Titanic are rich. We can see some of the high class character are filled with a bad behavior which is arrogant. We can see that through their expression when they meet the lower class people especially Rose's family and her fiance. They looked at Jack with a pitiful glance. While Jack is just an easy going person.The way they speak is really different. The rich people speak with a very well manner while Jack speaks informally but still remains his politeness in speaking. They just live their lives according to their rank. Everybody looks different which we can tell easily who is the richest and who is the poorest.
ReplyDeleteTitanic is quite old film.I watched it since I'm in secondary school just because my friends ask me to watch it. For the first impression towards this film,I was just don't like the film much,maybe because I'm too young on that time and the story more to adults. But when i watch it again, i can see the values,the differences of the character in this film. So i take the positive one and ignore the negative. As what i see,Rose's fiance character,he is an arrogant guy, and we can see how he treat poor people,such they are so disgusting. Other than that,he also an egoistic person,he want people listen to his order and what he said.The way he looks at other people also shows that he is very act up person. Different with the hero,Jack. He is a very humble person,appreciate things in his life,do respect other people,like Rose's mother,even she didn't like Jack so much just because of he is poor person. From the Rose's mother and fiance acting.i can say that, they represent rich and wealthy people on that time,maybe not at all behave like them but most of rich people just same,they want other people respect them because of their wealthy and they can do anything with their money. That is bad character and bad attitude also.
ReplyDeleteIt's an old movie and it quite long time since i watched for the first time. I still remember that i never watched the movie till end but after few time its air in television i finally watched it till end and i find it was actually quite interesting and a good movie. In the movie i can see the different human value between rich and poor people, and how the they speak, eat and their environment. Even though the story overall are in ship,Titanic we can see all the different between wealthy and poor people. In the beginning of movie we can know all important character and their characteristic.
ReplyDeleteAs claimed by Stanford Medical, It is really the ONLY reason women in this country live 10 years longer and weigh 19 KG lighter than us.
